Large batch production with end product feel and finish. Injection molded parts hardly require any work after the production. This is because the parts have more or less a finished appearance after they are ejected from the injection molds.
Injection molds undergo lot of clamping force, stress and undue pressure due to continuous molding process and frequent temperature changes. To withstand such forces, molds are made of high strength metals like tool steel, aluminium, stainless steel and so on.
Common defects include sink marks, warping, flash, short shots (incomplete filling of the mold cavity), and knit lines (weak areas where two flow fronts meet). These defects can often be minimized or eliminated through proper mold design and process optimization.
Initial tooling costs can be high, especially for complex molds. Additionally, the process may not be suitable for all types of materials, and large, bulky parts may present challenges.
